DominicanModa includes 23 runway shows

The official Dominican Fashion Week, DominicanModa 2008 (DM), returns for its third year Oct.13-18 at the Occidental Hotel El Embajador in Santo Domingo.

This Dominican version of fashion week will include five daily runway shows from 12:30 p.m. - 10 p.m. and will showcase the work of designers from across the globe.

The six-day red carpet event includes 23 runway shows, demonstrations and cocktail/after parties. This year's fashion innovations include a dedication to South American design with presentations from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela.

In addition, the DominicanaModa Mall (an event exhibit) will feature companies linked to textiles, design and fashion accessories.

Dominican Republic Minister of Tourism Francisco Javier Garcia said, "We are proud to host this celebrity fashion event in North America's foremost city, Santo Domingo.

Discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492, Santo Domingo is a sophisticated urban city filled with artistic treasures and has inspired the world's poets, dancers, musicians and fashion designers to create more passionately and with Dominican style. Our country and people are full of warmth, and centuries of overwhelming hospitality."

DM will host designers from Rocio Martinez to Sully Bonnelly. The unique work of participating designers (including Gutierrez-Marcano, Cynthia Avelino, Jacqueline Then, Luis Dominguez and more) will be covered by international media including Fashion TV, Collections TV of Fox Networks and more.

Official sponsors of this year's event include Orange Dominicana, MasterCard, Brugal, Pantene and Occidental Hotel El Embajador.

Since its first appearance, DM has assumed a role of social responsibility allocating a portion of proceeds to non-profit institutions.
