Nevis, the small island in the Caribbean, can now boast of exporting 9,500 pounds of Sea Island Cotton worth US$95,000 to the Japanese markets, according to statistics from the Department of Agriculture.
This was the first time Nevis has exported its produce to Japan and the Agriculture Ministry is delighted with the outcome.
The Authorities identified that cotton can be one of the highest foreign exchange earners, and can have a positive effect in enhancing the economy of the country.
Observing such opportunity, market experts opine that now the country should pay heed to improve its agriculture and farmers can generate huge income from the cultivation of cotton.
Navis reintroduced plantation of cotton after a long time. Improper planning and lack of prudence, from the authority's side discouraged farmers to continue this cultivation.
