Cotton yarn exports, Brazil up 40% while Mexico shows decline

Cotton yarn exports between two exporting countries Brazil and Mexico showed contrasting trends.
Brazil smarting on strong currency Real, registered export at 2,129,745 kilograms, up 40.5 percent in September. Exports were largely (over 50 percent) to Argentina that recorded a 49.6 percent rise at 1,185,923 kilograms.
United States (348,604 kilograms), Peru (224,517 kilograms), Chile (174,072 kilograms) and Portugal (100,681 kilograms), were other major export destinations that showed promise.
Meanwhile, cotton yarn exports by Mexico is showing a weak trend this year.
Against a decline of 59.2 percent in June, July exports registered a drop of 34.6 percent. Cumulative January-July cotton yarn exports stood at US $31.316, a drop of 41.2 percent. Also cotton yarn import of Mexico was recorded at $27.124 million in the same period, a 4.5 percent drop.
Imports of lightweight cotton fabrics was up 11.1 percent at $87.601 million, as exports surged 266.5 percent to $12.106 million. A 4.8 percent rise at $437.067 million was observed in case of heavyweight cotton fabric imports even as exports of the same category jumped $45.763 million.
