Available statistics show in the first quarter of the current fiscal, exports soared by 27.1 percent in comparison to a rise of mere 4.3 percent in the corresponding period for the previous year.
During this period, shipments to India grew by around 10 percent against 0.6 percent growth in the similar period last fiscal. Nepal gained such high growth by exporting readymade garments, shoes and sandals, polyester yarn to India.
Exports to other countries also surged by 58.3 percent compared to 11.9 percent of the corresponding period of the previous year. Nepal shipped woolen carpets, pashmina, along with other commodities to these markets.
On the other hand, it is observed that imports also increased by 30.6 percent in the first three months of the present fiscal. The rise this year is more than double in comparison to a lower increase of 13.1 percent of last fiscal year.
Imports from India amplified by 19.3 percent compared to a growth of 13.7 percent against previous financial year and from other countries, enlarged by 48.5 percent compared to 12.1 percent of the earlier year.
