After achieving the most lucrative turnover of Rs6000 million in the 2007-08 fiscal, National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC), is optimistic to hit the target of Rs8000 million in the current financial year.

Mr S K Srivastava Deputy General Manager for NHDC, confirming the news to Fibre2fashion.com said that the Corporation is expecting a robust growth of around 33 percent in the ongoing fiscal.

NHDC provides subsidised raw materials like wool, cotton, rayon, cotton, silk, dyes and chemicals and other logistics support to unorganised artisans and works closely with the Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC) for helping the export-oriented handloom units.

The corporation organizes expositions like WoolFab and SilkFab in various metropolitan cities.

Around 35 million people are directly or indirectly associated with the handloom sector, one of the largest employment provider after agriculture.

NHDC has set up marketing complexes in Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Indore, Kanpur, Hyderabad and Jaipur, to protect weavers from middlemen and suppliers.
