Eight Jharcraft outlets to come up soon

Jun '09
Eight new outlets of Jharkhand Silk, Textile and Handicraft Development Corporation (Jharcraft), under a private-public partnership model, will be established soon in urban centres of state by this autumn.

These outlets will be developed at Dhanbad, Bokaro, Jamshedpur, Deoghar, Ramgarh, Giridih, Hazaribagh and Dumka centres. The capital, Ranchi already has this kind of centre.

The Jharcraft Director Mr. Dhirendra Kumar said that for the first time the corporation will offer a franchise model for these upcoming sales outlets. The franchise owners are expected to receive a handsome margin of profit on gross sale of the products.

Mr. Kumar informed that the corporation has taken out an advertisement and is expecting to receive proposals from businessmen having 5,000-6,000sqft area in a prime location and some marketing acumen. The corporation is looking forward to receiving a positive response to its advertisement as it has already received two queries from Bokaro and Giridih, he added.

From silk, handicrafts, cotton, woolen to handloom products of the state, these sale outlets would sell every Jharcraft product. The outlet in Ranchi generates around Rs. 7-8 lakhs in a month by selling Jharcraft products, informed Mr. Kumar.

At present, Jharcraft outlets exist in August Kranti Bhavan, Bikaji Cama Place, Delhi Haat Pitampura, Delhi Haat near IMA Market, Craft Museum, Pragati Maidan, National Museum, Janpath, Rajiv Gandhi Hastashilpa Bhavan (Saras Gallery) — all in Delhi and Malleshwaram in Bangalore.
