According to customs statistics, in the first quarter of 2009, China's import and export of textile machinery amounted to US $1.097 billion, down 56.34 percent year-on-year. Among them, exports registered $231 million, down 41.83 percent and imports touched $866 million, down 61.48 percent.
From export side, exports of knitting machinery realized $93.23 million, down 20.12 percent and accounting for the largest share in exports. Exports from the private sector totaled $108 million, down 10.05 percent. Exports to India amounted to $72.26 million, down 2.11 percent year-on-year.
On import side, imports of knitting machinery reached $143 million, down 43.86 percent and accounting for 33.15 percent of total imports. From a trade perspective, imports of general trade stood at $198 million, down 69.02 percent year-on-year and accounting for 45.78 percent of all textile machinery imports.
