Further the application for amendment of the Rules (cf. Cotton Report No. 17/18. of 8. May 2009) was approved unanimously. With this amendment instrument testing methods for cotton will be harmonized. In the future the contracting parties are able to conduct tests according to the rules of Liverpool and Bremen at any laboratory of their choice. A second test is only allowed in a certified lab. So far, certified labs are the labs of the ICA and the Bremen Cotton Exchange (the Bremen Fibre Institute). If the first testing has been done in a certified lab, i.e. in Liverpool or Bremen, the results will be final and an application for a second test is not permitted according to the rules of both associations.
Detlev Trede, Albrecht, Müller-Pearse & Co, resigned from the Board of Directors. The members of the General Assembly re-elected Lüder Vollers, Berthold Vollers GmbH Bremen and elected Fritz A. Grobien, Friedrich W. Kaemena & Co. GmbH to the Board of Directors.
The board of members approved the current presidency, Wolfgang Vogt-Jordan, Friedrich W. Kaemena & Co. GmbH, as President and Jens D. Lukaczik, managing partner of Cargo Control Germany GmbH as Vice-President, for the subsequent session of next year.
In his speech the key note speaker, Mr Lutz Peper, President of the Bremen Chamber of Commerce, covered a broad range from the merchant's town Bremen to the textile crisis as well. He did not hesitate to mention some critical words regarding the financial crisis and the aftermath. With mentioning the case of the Opel company Mr. Peper underlined the Chamber´s clear position, that private engagement should always be preferred compared to a governmental support.
He also referred to the difficult situation of trade and industry concerning the granting of loans. The Chamber´s President stressed the relevance of new ideas and activities to face the crisis also locally: “Our local challenge will be the development if new perspectives.”
