NovaGreen 7510 supports carpet-backing technology

At a time when many companies are reducing their focus on new technologies for their served markets, OMNOVA Solutions continues to invest in products that make a difference for its customers. An exciting example is the introduction of NovaGreen 7510 latex, a significant step forward in carpet-backing technology that offers manufacturers a number of performance and environmental advantages.

NovaGreen 7510 high solids emulsion polymer is suitable for both commercial and residential carpet applications. At 56%-plus solids content, carpet mills can see drying times – and, thus, energy usage – reduced significantly compared to standard 52% solids products. The higher solids base also allows for the use of recycled or production wastewater by carpet manufacturers as they optimize their backing adhesive formulations. This reduces wastewater disposal volumes, conserving resources and providing a cost savings.

The NovaGreen 7510 emulsion disperses fillers and other auxiliaries quite readily and is more receptive to post-consumer content than traditional latex products. Faster dispersion promotes shorter mixing times, allowing for greater throughput.

“We recognize the importance of delivering step-out technologies that provide a competitive advantage to our customers,” said Dan Rogers, Business Director, Carpet Chemicals at OMNOVA Solutions. “Differentiation is critical, especially in these challenging times, so we view investments in innovation as key to providing products and services that customers value. We are proud to offer a product that gives greater processing flexibility while promoting resource conservation.

“NovaGreen 7510 has broad application,” Rogers added. “In addition to being an excellent choice for commercial carpet, this is the first high solids product for the residential carpet segment.”

Produced in Calhoun, Georgia, NovaGreen 7510 helps reduce the carbon footprint of local carpet manufacturers in North Georgia, the heart of the carpet-making industry.

OMNOVA's Calhoun facility began operations in 1978. The plant employs about 45 people and produces styrene butadiene (SB) latex adhesives used in carpet backing and vinylpyridine latex for tire cord, a component found in many types of tires. SB latex is OMNOVA's largest single product line, with approximately 50% of the Company's global sales generated from this chemistry.

In addition to the Georgia plant, OMNOVA is well-positioned to serve the carpet, paper and specialty SB chemical markets from facilities in Wisconsin and Ohio, and has a growing business in Asia and Europe. OMNOVA Solutions is a Responsible Care company, with a strong, long-standing commitment to the American Chemistry Council's environmental, health, safety and security initiative that covers nearly every aspect of chemical development, manufacturing, transportation and disposal.
