Total industrial value output of nonwoven fabrics shoots up

According to data published by the National Bureau of Statistics, in the period January to May, production of China's non-woven fabrics large-scale enterprises realized a total industrial output value of 16.4 billion Yuan, an increase of 7.66 percent over the previous year.

The total assets of the nonwoven industry totaled to 30.7 billion Yuan, an increase of 11.83 percent year-on-year; profits reached 700 million Yuan, an increase of 99.4 million or 16.03 percent and value of exports accumulated to 2.5 billion Yuan, down 8.74 percent year-on-year.

The number of people employed by the whole industry came to 78,575, down 0.47 percent year-on-year. In the same period, output of non-woven fabrics marked 483,000 tons, representing an increase of 27.83 percent over the same period of the previous year. Production was mainly concentrated in Zhejiang, Shandong, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Fujian and Liaoning Provinces.

In the first five months of 2009, total investment in the sector accumulated to 2.6 billion Yuan, an increase of 47.54 percent year-on-year. So far this year, the total number of projects under construction amount to 134, an increase of 25.23 percent, of which 83 are new projects.

Data also reveals that in January to May of 2009, imports of industrial textiles stood at 121,000 tons, down 27.74 percent year-on-year, while export volume for the same touched 649,000 tons, down 3.14 percent year-on-year.
