The Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEPC) and the Ministry of Commerce in India will shortly set up a warehouse in Sri Lanka, which will stock a variety of fabrics and help the Sri Lankan apparel sector cut lead times and costs.
This was informed by the former Chairman of PDEPC, Mr Mathivanan, who is in Sri Lanka to attend 'TexIndia 2009”, a buyer-seller meet. He said it could prove to be a win-win situation for both countries as they could take advantage of the FTA agreement.
He said that 85 percent of the fabric manufactured in India was produced on powerlooms and which had developed an image of supplying good quality fabrics at value pricing and also generates 35 percent of the export value of shipments from the textile sector.
He added by saying that a reverse buyer-seller meet would also be organised in India, where the buyers would be able to visit the weaving factories. The Government of India has set up high-tech textile weaving parks and he is the Chairman of one such park.
