Vietnamese and Italian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) saw huge potential in cooperation in farm produce, garments and textiles, leather shoes and tourism while discussing at a seminar held in Ha Noi on October 25.
Various Italian banks and economic universities and concerned Vietnamese departments participated in the seminar.
Nguyen Ngoc Phuc, Vice Minister of Planning and Investment, emphasized that Vietnamese government has long-term plans for the growth of SMEs.
Vietnamese SMEs have been strengthened by Italy and other EU countries during the recent times. Considering the potential for two-sided economic cooperation of Vietnam-Italy, the trade value of 700 million Euros in 2003 was still modest, said Phuc.
The true bilateral cooperation can only begin when the two sides meet and work together, said Alfredo Matacotta Cordella, Italian Ambassador to Vietnam.
With 97 percent SMEs, Vietnam had approximately 200,000 businesses at the end of September. The country plans to take this number to 500,000 during 2006-2010.
