Govt proposes to set up weaving training centre

A list of Constituency Development Grant (CDG) activities, which will soon be endorsed, has been laid out by the Prime Minister Mr. Lyonchhoen Jigmi Y Thinley and people of Nanong-Shumar constituency in Pemagatshel.

Along with 34 gewog tshogdu members of the constituency, the PM went through an 'entire shopping list of activities' in a bid to chalk out the utilization plan of Nu 2 million per year grant, informed an official from PM's office.

Some portion of PM's CDG will be utilized to establish a weaving centre in Shumar gewog, added the officer. The members as well as the Prime Minister have proposed to spend Nu 2 million for a small weaving centre that will impart training to the weavers about making use of a blend of traditional and modern looms.

It has been expected that the weaving centre will benefit whole of Pemagatshel and neighboring Kengkhar and Jurmi gewogs in Mongar, along with the three gewogs in PM's constituency.

Apart from a training room, the weaving centre will also have dormitory and three houses made of mud and bamboo. It would also train rural woman, and start a project to provide school uniforms to nearby schools. The fund of Nu 2 million will be utilized to supply yarn and manufacture looms, too.
