Oil and chemical company, JSC Alco-Naphtha is building a PET plant in Kaliningrad which will have a capacity of 240,000 tons per year. Once operational, it will be the biggest PET plant in Russia.
The company has informed that the construction of the plant is as per schedule and will be operational in the first half of 2010. The capacity of the plant is double the size of another existing PET plant operated by Polief.
A Germany based company; Uhde Inventa-Fischer is supplying the technology and equipment for the plant. Around 60 percent of the output will be exported, with the rest meant for domestic consumption.
The new PET plant represents the first commercial use of MTR technology in Europe. This technology does not require traditional solid state processing and delivers improved product processing through lower temperatures and shorter cycle times.
