FDDI conducts laboratory training programme

Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) conducted a Laboratory training programme for the Bangladesh Leather Service Centre (BLSC) and Bangladesh College of Leather Technology (BCLT) Lab personnel.

The project of Bangladesh, being funded by Italian Government and implemented jointly by ITC/UNCTAD/WTO- Geneva and Leather Sector Business Promotion Council (LSBPC), Ministry of Commerce, Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh, Bangladesh College of Leather Engineering & Technology (BCLET), Ministry of Education (MOE), Bangladesh aims for the growth of Bangladesh Leather Industry.

Elaborating upon the details, Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI said, “It's indeed a matter of great pride that Mr. Naseem Ahmed has done a pioneering work for the growth of Bangladesh Leather Industry by equipping its technical workforce with requisite operational knowledge of UV Visible Spectrometer.”

The training programme demonstrated methods to determine contents of Cr-6 and formaldehyde in leather using UV-Vis Spectrometer.

Earlier, in this regard, a high level delegation consisting of five members led by Mr. Abu Sayeed Chowdhury, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Government of Bangladesh (GOB), Mr. Md. Rezaul Karim Ansari, Chairman, Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leathergoods and Footwear Exporters' Association (BFLLFEA), Mr. Md. Saiful Islam, President, Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers' and Exporters' Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB), Ms. Ishrat Jahan, Programme Manager, Leather Sector Business Promotion Council (LSBPC), Ministry of Commerce, GOB and Mr. Mohammad Abdul Maleque, National Consultant & CEO, Bangladesh Leather Service Centre (BLSC) had visited FDDI on September 3 & 4, 2009.

The Managing Director of FDDI, had assured the delegation of full support from FDDI to replicate best practices and appropriate technology so as to enable the Bangladesh Leather Industry to become a 'one stop shop' for technology and industrial development to enhance the industrial performance.

The weeklong training programme and practical operation of UV Visible Spectrometer in the Laboratory of BCLET was provided by Mr. Naseem Ahmed (Head-Chemical Lab) from 6th to 11th March 2010.

The training programme was very much successful and the course provided the participants with the essential training to widen the knowledge base to work efficiently.
