Apparel & footwear sales log double digit growth in Sep

Department of statistics, Singapore releases monthly retail sales and catering trade indices report for September 2005.
Overall retail sales in September 2005 rose by 5.1 percent compared to August 2005. Excluding motor vehicles, the index went up marginally 0.3 percent.
Total retail sales value in September 2005 was estimated at $2,336 million compared to $2,222 million in August 2005.
Medical goods & toiletries reported higher receipts of 10.9 percent in September 2005 over august 2005.
Retail sector of watches & jewellery, department stores, furniture & household equipment, telecommunications, apparatus & computers also reported some increase in sales in September 2005.
Conversely, supermarkets, retailers of optical goods & books, food & beverages, wearing apparel & footwear registered lower turnover of 2 percent to 5 percent in September 2005 over the previous month.
