According to senior office bearer of a textile body, restraining or imposing punitive duty on exports of cotton yarn could have adverse effects on the well being of the cotton spinning sector in the country.
Gohar Ejaz, Chairman, Punjab Zone, All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Punjab Zone warned that undertaking these measures would have serious consequences and could impede supply to the local value-added sector.
He said most of the mills were operating on low stocks of cotton and in case cotton supplies ran out, there would be no other alternative but to close down these mills, putting thousands of jobs at risk.
These mills can be restarted only after the new cotton crop comes in to the market. He advised and urged the policy makers to help the textile industry from ultimate collapse.
