Ministry launches Weaving and Handicraft Workshop

The Minister of Development, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi, during the inaugural and gathering ceremony of a Weaving and Handicraft Workshop, which marked the Hari Gawai celebration at the Bang Taong Longhouse in Mukim Sukang, Belait, emphasized on its duties and responsibilities.

The Ministry of Development's key responsibilities include providing infrastructure and other basic facilities such as road, drainage, sewerage, housing, water supply, and environment and waste management systems.

With the launch of this workshop, Yang Berhormat said that, the art of weaving and producing handicraft goods, by the people of Kampung Bang Taong, will now be practices in the actual sense. By virtue of this woven and handicraft goods, villagers will be able to develop an industry that will help improve their socio-economy level.

More so, the Hari Gawai gathering ceremony also targeted at building support amidst the tribes, so as to pave way for a more harmonious and peaceful life for them.

The current project that is being carried out by the Ministry of Development is upgradation of Sungai Mau, Merangking and Buau Main Roads. This $10.7 million project comprises of 24 kilometre long road, which is likely to complete in September 2011. This road, according to Yang Berhormat, will help improve socio-economic development in the rural area.
