The official cotton spot rates at the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) once again rose for the second consecutive day by Rs 50 to touch Rs 6,550 on Friday. Cotton spot prices had grown by Rs 100 on the previous day.
Meanwhile, rains have lashed the cotton-growing belts of Punjab and Sindh, considered to be on time by experts and who also aver that if they continue for a few more days, it could mean a bounty cotton crop in the next season.
However, in previous years, the cotton crop has had the misfortune of being hit by the measly bug and curl leaf virus, which has reduced the yield to a certain extent. Experts have advised farmers to take measures to avoid the same.
