Local market of Argentina is the strongest in Latin America for the retail purchase of textiles and apparel; this development has forced local textile production to record levels.
Moreover, it is also fetching an increasing amount of imports from Brazil - its textile powerhouse neighbour.
Cotton yarn is one of the hottest export products. Brazil's cotton yarn exports to Argentina increased to 12,107 tons, up from 1,104 tons in 2002.
This forced Brazil and Argentina to put voluntary restrictions on Brazil's textile exports, which brought about drop in 2004 exports of cotton yarn to 7,809 tons.
From January to October, cotton yarn exports from Brazil to Argentina have now expanded to 11,615 tons.
