UK fleece wool central marketing organization British Wool Marketing Board (BWMB) announced that more free training available for Welsh farmers.
Hundreds more farmers will have access to free shearing courses and associated training over the next two years, thanks to new matched funding secured by the Wool Board.
More than £147,000 is now available, through Welsh European Funding from ESF Objective 3, to run from January next year until June 2008. This will enable free training courses to be offered in Powys, Flintshire, Wrexham, Monmouthshire, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Thanks to previous matched funding of £184,500, more than 400 farmers in Powys have already benefited from free training in the last two years and it is anticipated that demand for the new programmer of courses will be just as high.
Led by the Wool Board, now accredited by the NPTC (National Proficiency Test Council) as the shearing assessment centre in the UK, a wide range of practical courses will be available.
These will be run as close as possible to local demand and cover Shearing, Beginners to Advanced, and Gear Maintenance; Sheep Dog Handling; Introduction to Sheep Husbandry, Veterinary Medicine, Foot Trimming; Farm Records on Computer; Health and Safety and Dry Stone Walling.
