Clothing materials & garments prices up in Nov

Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia released the consumer and retail price indices for November 2005.

Deflation in November
In November deflation was registered for the third time this year. Compared to October, consumer prices were down on average by 0.5 percent. From the beginning of the year to the end of November prices were up by 2.3 percent (last year by 3.5 percent).

November deflation mostly the result of lower prices of goods
Deflation was mostly the result of lower prices of goods (on average by 0.6 percent). Prices of durable and non-durable goods fell by 1 percent, while prices of semi-durable goods were up by 1.4 percent. For the third consecutive month prices of services were down - this time on average by 0.1 percent.

EMU convergence price index lower
The growth of prices measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices was also negative (-0.5 percent), whereas the 12-month average price growth measured with the EMU convergence price index fell to 2.5 percent. According to October 2005 data, the EMU convergence criterion for inflation was 2.4 percent, which means that in October Slovenia's inflation was 0.3 percentage point too high.

Food, clothing and footwear more expensive
In November higher prices were registered in the following groups: clothing and footwear (by 1.2 percent), food and non-alcoholic beverages (by 0.8 percent), miscellaneous goods and services (by 0.6 percent) and furnishing, household equipment and maintenance (by 0.4 percent).
