The International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) announced that the organization is going to present at the Hong Kong Trade and Development Symposium (HKTDS), which will take place from December 13-17, 2005 at the Hong Kong Exhibition Centre.

The HKTDS is co-convened by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and The University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law, in collaboration with the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy.

This event will open on 13 December with a panel organised by UNDP RCC and ICTSD at 16.30, followed by a joint welcoming reception of the HKTDS and the HK Fair Trade Fair, at 18.30 – highlighting speakers such as Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz and Mary Robinson as well as an exciting dragon dance. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be served.

The HKTDS will provide a space for innovative thinking and exchange among a wide range of stakeholders – from trade negotiators, IGOs, NGOs, the research community, consumers groups and the private sector on trade and development issues in the context of the Doha Round negotiations. New and applied research and findings will be presented by a range of high calibre actors with a view to informing trade negotiations in the key months ahead.

Individual sessions have been organised by an impressive and diverse group of over seventy partner organisers from both developing and developed countries.

HKTDS will address all the relevant negotiating issues – ranging from services, agriculture, NAMA including textiles, IP, and fisheries – as well as systemic issues such as fair trade, LDCs and small states concerns, aid-for-trade, special and differential treatment, regionalism, trade and poverty linkages, commodities, competition, trade and health, food standards and traceability, legal issues, environment and natural resources.
