Handicrafts export exceeds target in first two quarters

Handicrafts export has well exceeded the target set for the first two quarters of the current year. The Sector has achieved an export of US $1,024 million against the target of US $ 990 million. Thiru Dayanidhi Maran, the Union Minister of Textiles, said this while giving away the awards for excellence in Handicrafts exports.

Speaking on the occasion, Thiru Maran added that India's export of handicrafts went up by 6.55 % from Rs. 8,132 crore in 2008 – 09 to Rs. 8,719 crore in 2009 – 10. In Dollar terms, it marked an increase of 1.8 % from US $ 1,798 million in 2008 – 09 to US $ 1,830 million in 2009 – 10. Comparing the figures of April – November alone, the exports went up by 18.7 % from Rs. 4,412 crore to Rs. 5,238 crore and in Dollar terms by about 25 % from US $ 912 million to US $ 1,139 million, the Minister added

Thiru Maran gave away 53 awards for excellence in exports to handicrafts exporters. In addition, life-time achievement awards were presented for rendering outstanding services to Handicrafts sector to five eminent exporters of India. The top export award for all items of handicrafts was given to M/s Designco, Moradabad.

The trophy for export award in Artmetal Ware category went to M/s Jagdamba Exports, Sonipat, in EPNS Handicrafts, M/s Highlands Exports, Moradabad, in Woodware, M/s Shekhawati Art Exports, Jodhpur, in Zari Handicrafts, M/s Filadil Exports, New Delhi, in Lace, Laces and Embroidery M/s Asian Handicrafts Pvt. Ltd, Gurgon, in Textiles based handicrafts, M/s Indian Touch, Moradabad, in Fashion Jewellery M/s Fashion Life, Guraon, in Marble Alabaster & Crafted Stone, M/s Oswal Traders & Tavels Pvt. Ltd, Agra, in Papier Machie, M/s Muzafar & Co, New Delhi, in Iron Crafts, M/s C.L. Gupta Exports Ltd, Moradaba, in Jute Handicrafts, M/s Ganges Jute Pvt. Ltd, Kolkata in Glass Artwares M/s C.L. Gupta Exports Ltd., Moradabad, in Ceramic Artwares, M/s Dilip Ceramics Pvt. Ltd, Jaipur, in Aluminium artwares M/s C.L. The woman entrepreneur trophy was given to M/s Global Art Exports, Jaipur and M/s Sharma International, Agra. The regional awards were given to Bharat Exim-N-Handicrafts Pvt. Ltd, from Western Region, M/s Dileep Industries Pvt. Ltd, Jaipur from Northern region, M/s C.L. Gupta Exports Ltd, Moradabad from Central region, M/s Sri J J Lakshmi & Co, Narsapur from Southern region and M/s Ganges Jute Pvt. Ltd., Kolkata from Eastern region.

In all these categories, Merit certificates were distributed to 20 companies.

Life time achievement awards were given to Mr. Sam Vadera of Gurgoan, Mr. M.L. Sharma, New Delhi, Mrs. Vasu Dev Pawha of New Delhi, Mr. K.N. Sachdev, New Delhi and Mrs. Leela Bordia of Jaipur for their outstanding services to Handicrafts sector.
