The unemployment rate was estimated at 8.7 per cent in the month—a decrease of 0.3 percentage point month on month (MoM). It was an estimated 7.3 per cent for men and 11.3 per cent for women, the Turkish Statistical Institute (Turkstat) said in a release.
The number of employed persons in the country increased by 147,000 to 32.423 million in February compared to the previous month’s figure.
The employment rate was 49.3 per cent in the month—an increase of 0.2 percentage point MoM. It was 66.5 per cent for men and 32.5 per cent for women.
The number of persons in the labour force was 35.501 million in February—an increase of 38,000 over the January figure.
The labour force participation rate did not change at 54 per cent; this rate was 71.7 per cent for men and 36.6 per cent for women.
The youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 15.6 per cent—a drop of 0.8 percentage point MoM. It was an estimated 13.4 per cent for men and 19.6 per cent for women.
