Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 14.65 per cent year-on-year to $2.201 billion during the ten-month period, while exports of non-knit readymade garments were up by 11.96 per cent to $2.122 billion.
Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $56.571 million during the period under review, showing an increase of 31.97 per cent compared to exports of $42.866 million during the same months of the previous fiscal.
Cotton yarn exports showed increase of 7.20 per cent and fetched $1.117 billion, as against exports of $1.042 billion made during July-April 2016-17. Exports of cotton fabric too rose marginally by 1.12 per cent and were valued at $1.823 billion during the initial ten months of the current fiscal, while bedwear exports increased by 4.77 per cent to $1.855 billion, the data showed.
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were up 13.10 per cent year-on-year to $443.229 million, whereas imports of synthetic and artificial silk increased slightly by 1.58 per cent to $538.973 million.
Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan rose 2.14 per cent year-on-year to $469.874 million during the period under review.
In fiscal 2016-17 that ended on June 30, the value of textile and garment exports made by Pakistan increased by 0.04 per cent to $12.452 billion compared to exports valued at $12.447 billion in 2015-16. (RKS)
