PETA urges to use alternatives of fur, leather & wool

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animal (PETA) urges shoppers to purchase faux fur and other alternatives.

Holding signs reading, 'Peace on Earth: No Fur," a flurry of 'St Nicks' dressed all in red—with faux-fur trim, of course—will put in an early appearance at the Center St Promenade to urge shoppers to bring comfort and joy to animals by making the purchase of real fur, leather, and wool a thing of Christmas past:

Santa knows that there's nothing nice about killing animals for their hides, and even sheep get the old heave-ho (literally—the Australian wool industry tosses sheep overboard if they collapse during long sea journeys to the Middle East for slaughter).

China—where not a single law exists to protect animals on fur farms—has become the world's leading exporter of fur.

An undercover investigation found that millions of dogs and cats in China are bludgeoned, hanged, strangled with wire nooses, and bled to death for their fur, which is often intentionally mislabeled as fur from other species.

PETA has also obtained undercover video footage that shows that fur farmers in China swing foxes and raccoon dogs by their hind legs and smash their heads on the ground—breaking the animals' necks but leaving them panting, blinking, and conscious as they are skinned alive.

And don't forget leather, a great deal of which comes from India, where even though many people consider cows sacred, millions are slaughtered in appalling conditions for the Western leather market.
