A number of export promotion measures would be taken to double India's share in the global handicrafts market from its two percent figure, said Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath.

Exports of handicrafts from India are on the verge crossing the $2.9 billion mark achieved during 2004-05.

Being one of the highest export revenue earners, the handicrafts sector had recorded 29 percent growth during 2004-05 FY.

Present global market of gifts and handicrafts is worth $235 billion, Kamal Nath said.

He promised full government support to a proposal by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) for raising funds to improve handicrafts sector's infrastructure in India.
