Tamil Nadu Government is seriously considering the suggestions offered by the cotton industry, trade and also the South India Cotton Association (SICA), to improve the quality cotton output.
A Seed Certification Department needs to be established up so as to monitor the distribution of quality seeds to the farmers.
SICA opined that both State and Central Government should continue the Technology Upgradation Fund and Technology Mission of Cotton till the end of 11th Plan including increased funds.
Inclusion of cotton as a pledge commodity under APMC Act was requested to help farmers get good returns like any other notified commodity.
It was suggested that insurance premium should be brought down at an affordable level and the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University should adopt key districts holding cotton potential for transfer of technology.
A portable exhibition should also be organized to provide the farmers with knowledge about Integrated Pest, Nutrition Management and Practices.
