Federal Statistical Office of Germany announces the turnover in retail trade in Germany in March 2006 was in nominal terms 0.8 percent and in real terms 1.2 percent smaller than that of the corresponding month of the previous year.
The number of days open for sale was 27 in March 2006 and 25 in March 2005. In the previous year, however, Easter sales took place in March, while this year they took place in April.
When adjusted for calendar and seasonal variations, the March turnover was in nominal terms 3.0 percent and in real terms 2.7 percent smaller than that of the preceding month.
In the context of the current updating of the data with data reported retrospectively by enterprises, this first result for March will probably turn out better, as experience has shown.
Compared with the corresponding period of the previous year, retail turnover was in the first three months 2006 in nominal terms 0.9 percent and in real terms 0.4 percent larger than that in first three months of 2005.
