According to provisional data of the Federal Statistical Office, Germany exported commodities to the value of EUR 77.0 billion and imported commodities to the value of EUR 62.7 billion in March 2006.
German exports of March 2006 thus were 18.1 percent and imports 28.3 percent above the respective March 2005 levels. Upon calendar and seasonal adjustment, exports decreased by 3.2 percent and imports by 1.6 percent from February 2006.
The foreign trade balance showed a surplus of EUR 14.3 billion in March 2006. In March 2005, the foreign trade balance showed a surplus of EUR 16.3 billion. Upon calendar and seasonal adjustment, the foreign trade balance showed a surplus of EUR 11.0 billion in March 2006.
According to provisional results of the Deutsche Bundesbank, the current account of the balance of payments showed a surplus of EUR 9.0 billion in March 2006, which included the balances of supplementary trade items (EUR –1.6 billion), services (EUR –2.2 billion), factor income (net) (EUR +0.8 billion) and current transfers (EUR –2.2 billion). In March 2005, the German current account showed a surplus of EUR 11.9 billion.
In March 2006, Germany dispatched commodities to the value of EUR 49.6 billion to the Member States of the European Union, while it received commodities to the value of EUR 39.9 billion from those countries.
Compared with March 2005, dispatches to and arrivals from the EU countries increased by 17.5 percent and 21.6 percent, respectively. Commodities to the value of EUR 33.7 billion (+15.5 percent) were dispatched to the euro-zone countries in March 2006, while the value of commodities received from those countries was EUR 28.0 billion (+18.1 percent).
