Textiles & clothing, machinery exports up in April

Export Destinations ASEAN, the USA, the EU, the PRC, Japan and Hong Kong SAR together accounted for 79.8 percent of Malaysia's total exports in April 2006.
ASEAN absorbed RM12.61 billion or 27.2 percent of Malaysia's total exports in April 2006, compared with RM13.66 billion in March.
In April 2006, exports to the USA increased by 2.6 percent, after a surge of 23.1 percent in the month of March. The increase in exports to RM9.23 billion or 19.9 percent of Malaysia's total exports was mainly due to higher exports of E&E products, which accounted for 80.5 percent of total exports to the USA, and palm oil.
Exports to the EU totaled RM5.69 billion in April 2006, accounting for 12.3 percent of Malaysia's total exports.
In April 2006, exports to the PRC increased by 23.8 percent to RM3.75 billion, making it the third largest export market, replacing Japan. The increase was mainly contributed by higher exports of machinery, appliances.
Exports to Japan were RM3.58 billion, compared with RM4.64 billion in March 2006. Declines were recorded in all the major products exported to Japan.
Exports to Hong Kong SAR in April 2006 were RM2.1 billion, down from RM3.06 billion in March, attributed mainly to lower exports of E&E products.
Exports to West Asia amounted to RM1.33 billion, compared with RM1.65 billion in March 2006, due mainly to lower exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Yemen. Jordan, Iran, Iraq and Oman, on the other hand, recorded increases in exports.
