IMPORTS IN APRIL 2006 Total imports in April 2006 were RM39.09 billion, registering an increase of 11.4 percent from a year ago, but a decline of 6.3 percent from the record high of RM41.7 billion in March 2006. The decline was mainly contributed by lower imports of intermediate and capital goods.
The three main categories of imports by end-use in April 2006: Intermediate goods (RM27 billion or 69.1 percent of total imports); Capital goods (RM5.45 billion or 13.9 percent of total imports); and Consumption goods (RM2.21 billion or 5.7 percent of total imports).
Major imports in April 2006: Machinery, appliances and parts (RM3.31 billion or 8.5 percent of total imports); Chemicals and chemical products (RM2.86 billion or 7.3 percent of total imports); Optical and scientific equipment (RM 1.31 billion or 3.4 percent of total imports).
TRADE DURING THE PERIOD JANUARY- APRIL 2006 During the period January - April 2006, Malaysia's total trade increased by 11.5 percent to RM333.02 billion. Total exports during the period expanded by 10.2 percent to RM183.01 billion, while imports grew by 13.1 percent to RM150.01 billion. The trade surplus during the period was RM33 billion.
EXPORTS DURING THE PERIOD JANUARY-APRIL 2006 Over the period January - April 2006, significant growth were recorded in exports to Australia, with 14.7 percent; ASEAN, 12.8 percent; the PRC, 12.8 percent; the EU, 11.5 percent; the Republic of Korea (ROK), 10.7 percent; and the USA, 10.3 percent.
