Garments, shoes, hats & textile products retail more in May

National Bureau of Statistics of China released the total retail sale of consumer goods for May 2006.

The total retail sale of consumer goods in May achieved 617.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14.2 percent.

In view of different regions, the retail sale of urban consumer goods was 417.9 billion yuan, rose 15.0 percent, year-on-year; that for county and below county level was 199.7 billion yuan, rose 12.6 percent.

In view of different industries, the retail sale of wholesale and retail trade reached 523.2 billion yuan, up by 14.1 percent over the same period a year ago; hotel and catering services was 82.9 billion yuan, and increased 17.0 percent, other sectors reached 11.5 billion yuan, a rise of 0.9 percent.

In view of different commodity categories, retail sale of wholesale and retail trade above designated size, foodstuff, clothing and commodities respectively rose 15.5, 20.8 and 24.5 percent over the same month a year ago.

Of the total, gain and oil, meat, poultry and eggs rose 18.3 and 12.9 percent respectively; garments, shoes, hats and other textile products rose 20.8 percent; cultural and office appliances up by 9.2 percent; sports and recreation articles grew 25.3 percent; articles for daily use up by 14.7 percent; household electrical appliances and AV facilities grew 26.6 percent; furniture, construction and decoration materials, cosmetics, jewelries respectively increased 40.1, 20.2, 20.1 and 25.3 percent;communication equipment, vehicles, petroleum and its relevant products rose 24.8, 29.4 and 36.4 percent respectively.

The accumulated retail sale of consumer goods from January to May amounted to 3039 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.2 percent.
