Dedicated entirely to the international importance of the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, the meeting of the heads of the Oeko-Tex institutes took place in Hong Kong from 2-4 November.
This is where the Swiss Textile Testing Institute, Testex, set up the first official Oeko-Tex representative office in Asia eleven years ago, thus contributing to the huge success of the independent tests for harmful substances in one of the world's key textile production regions.
The Oeko-Tex Association operates 14 contact offices in 13 countries in Asia, issuing on average one in three Oeko-Tex certificates to a textile or clothing manufacturer from the Far East, admittedly still predominantly for products intended for export to European and North-American consumer markets, however.
The Austrian Textile Research Institute (ÖTI), Vienna, also announced that it opened a new representative office on 1 November in Egypt, which means that Oeko-Tex is now represented in 40 countries throughout the world.
More than 7,000 companies in over 70 countries worldwide are currently involved in the Oeko-Tex system at all levels of processing throughout the textile manufacturing chain; as the number of certificates awarded demonstrates, there is an upward trend.
Given the increasing need for information regarding the testing and certification procedure and the correct use of the Oeko-Tex label in sales and marketing, the heads of the Oeko-Tex institutes in Hong Kong presented a completely revised website in terms of both the design and content, which provides information on the Oeko-Tex Standard in several languages.
