The increasing prevalence of the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 around the world requires effective quality management, as well as a wide range of communications initiatives, in order to guarantee the product safety of the millions of certified products worldwide.

Oeko-Tex General Secretary Raimar Freitag and the heads of the member institutes therefore declared themselves determined to continue the successfully introduced QM measures in future and to expand these where necessary. These measures include product controls on at least 15 percent of all certificates issued at the cost of the Oeko-Tex Association.

Last year alone, the authorised test institutes carried out 7,284 control tests on labelled products from the shops. This corresponds to 17.4 percent of certificates awarded between July 2005 and June 2006, with tests carried out on products from 46 countries and 33 product groups.

The main focus of the control tests was product classes I (34 percent) and II (63 percent), which corresponds to the general percentage distribution of all Oeko-Tex certificates.

The heads of the Oeko-Tex institutes also agreed to continue the internal round robin tests between the authorised test institutes and the annual audits of the institutes.

Oeko-Tex will also be taking part in the International Exhibition of Textile Machinery (ITMA) from 13 to 20 September 2007 in Munich for the first time as a research association in the textile ecology sector.

The resolutions concerning the new edition of the criteria catalogue which will be valid as of 1 January 2007 will be published in a separate communiqué and will be available from mid-November from the Oeko-Tex Secretariat.
