As Day 2 of the Incredible India@60 campaign drew to a close, a galaxy of international business and political leaders gathered at a dinner hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry. The four-day campaign has been jointly organized by CII and Ministry of Tourism at New York.
The gala dinner also featured a fashion show by top Indian designer Ritu Kumar who brought the best of Indian embroidery, colorful fabrics, and rich textures in an exquisite collection of Indian ethnic wear and Western dresses to the ramp, enthralling an international audience of luminaries.
Mr Kamal Nath, Minister of Commerce and Industry, said that India@60 is also a celebration of partnership with US. Commenting that many meetings had been held during the day with top US officials, he said that the talk now was of opportunities and of a shared vision of the world.
Lauding Indian entrepreneurs, he stated that they have placed India on the global radar screen. He appreciated the role of Singapore, the only country with which India has signed a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement covering trade, investments, and services.
“We go now to India to see a rich, complex, diverse democracy, destined to be a great power,” declared Mr. William S. Cohen, former Secretary of Defense, USA and Chairman and CEO of the Cohen Group, addressing the guests. The world sees an India aspiring, an India climbing, and the US welcomes the sun that is rising, ended Mr Cohen.
