Cotton merchants report on an unchanged market caution. Following several turbulences at the end of last week, the prices settled on a high level. Many traders informed on sporadic inquiries up to the end of this year, but only closed just a few contracts, whereas the favourite cheap cotton was scarcely available.
Some traders registered a slow return in demand of European customers who were apparently expecting the market to move up. But Asian customers were still keeping quiet waiting for a market change.
Contracts about West African cotton and a little amount of Central Asian descriptions were closed for near dates. A relatively noteworthy amount of Indian and Greek cotton as well as some Central Asian and East African cotton was sold for the 4th quarter 2007.
The need for the 1st quarter 2008 was satisfied by raw material from West Africa. The demand for the 2nd quarter 2008 was met by Central Asian cotton.
Moreover, US Pima and Sudan Barakat were sold for the 4th quarter 2007.
