In the glittering setting of Stella Fashion Night, the Swiss Textile Federation presented on the 9 November 2007 its Swiss Textiles Award for the eight time.

This is one of the world's most prestigious promotional prizes for fashion. Designer Marios Schwab who lives in London was the winner. Max R. Hungerbühler, Chairman of the Swiss Textile Federation, presented a glass cube filled with Swiss fabrics to the radiant winner.

This cube symbolizes the prize worth 100,000 euros. The prize money is to be used to purchase materials and financial services and is intended to help the winner to make a definitive breakthrough in the international world of fashion.

For once the spotlight of the international fashion world was not turned on Paris, London or Milan. In the Toni Event Hall in Zurich, the Swiss Textile Federation as the organizer, with its media and cooperation partner annabelle, put on a superlative event – the Stella Fashion Night.

Guests of honour were star designer Tommy Hilfiger, Elmar Ledergerber, the Mayor of Zurich and Bruno Pieters, winner of the Swiss Textiles Award 2006.

Six international talents reached the final of this year's Swiss Textiles Award: Ann-Sofie Back, BLESS, Felipe Oliveira Baptista, Ute Ploier, Gareth Pugh and Marios Schwab.

They presented their spring/summer collections for 2008 on the catwalk to storms of enthusiastic applause from the audience. The jury of international fashion experts had a tough task, as Dolly Jones, editor of Vogue, London, and president of the jury confirmed.

Before presenting the prize, she announced that the decision has been “extremely tough”. But the jury took the view that the collection showed by Marios Schwab had the greatest development potential.

The winner was overcome with emotion and seemed scarcely able to grasp his good fortune. Marios Schwab is the 30 year old son of a Greek mother and an Austrian father and grew up in Greece.

Today, he lives and works in London. After beginning his studies at the Esmod Fashion Design School in Berlin, he graduated in 2003 from the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.

He was assistant to Kim Jones – one of the Swiss Textiles Award 2006 finalists and worked on Kim's spring/summer collection for 2004 before founding his own label in 2005.

Corset-dresses which highlight the feminine silhouette are his trade mark. In 2006, Marios Schwab was chosen as the Best New Designer at the British Fashion Awards. His collections are on sale at Browns, Harvey Nichols and Top Shop in London, Maria Luisa, in Paris, or Side by Side in Tokyo.
