German machinery for a promising market

The second German textile technology symposium in Bangladesh has been opened in the capital Dhaka. Initiated by the VDMA Textile Machinery Association and supported by the German government the two day event will give experts from the Bangladeshi textile industry a detailed survey of latest textile technology 'Made in Germany'.

Solution-oriented lectures shall empower the local engineers to tackle new challenges and to find solutions to make their respective textile mills fit for the increasing global competition.

“Bangladesh was expected by many to become a looser of the termination of the textile quota system in 2005. Quite contrary to these pessimistic forecasts, the textile industry of the country is in an upward trend since 2006” explained Ragnar Strauch, Director Export Marketing of the VDMA Textile Machinery Association during the symposium's opening.

“Our fantastic 2006 exports to Bangladesh worth nearly 60 million Euro are just another proof of Bangladesh's efforts to meet the requirements of the post quota era”, Strauch continued.

With total German exports worth 26,703 million Euro, the results for Bangladesh for the first half of 2007 were slightly below the extraordinary good year 2006 when 30,092 Euro were reached in the respective period and 59.332 Euro for the whole year.

Spinning machinery is still leading the exports to Bangladesh. From January to June 2007 German spinning technology worth 14,822 million Euro was shipped to Bangladesh. Number two in the ranking list was finishing machinery with exports worth 6,799 million Euro, followed by knitting, hosiery and similar machinery (4,048 Euro) and weaving machinery (886 thousand Euro).
