Man-made fibres output up even as August retail sales touch record level

Textile and apparel segments of the country have taken protective stance in 2005
Even as several textile and apparel sectors of the Czech Republic experienced recession, the man-made fibre segment maintained its output.
Though this segment has attracted lot of foreign investors, currently, industrialists are despatching man-made fibre and fabrics to less expensive locations for cut and sew process for making end products.
According to Czech Statistical Office, index of man-made fibre output (2004=100), in July touched 104.8 - a record for monthly production since January, and indicated a 4.8 percent growth on annual basis.
From January to July, the average of cumulative annual production rise was 2.1 percent; this increase in production follows an 11.0 percent growth in 2004.
Meanwhile, CSO reports that retail trade recorded the highest year-on-year growth since November 2004, in August 2005.
Seasonally adjusted retail sales (CZ-NACE 52) grew by 1.1% month-on-month at constant prices. The trend component rose by 0.4% m-o-m, which was, if expressed by figure on two decimal places, the highest increase since January 2003.
Non-specialised stores: sales grew by 3.9%, of which in stores with non-food goods predominating faster (+9.3%) than in stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating (+2.6%). Among stores with non-food goods predominating, particularly sales of enterprises with 100+ employees were on the increase;
