With an eye on the turning around in global economy, the spring 2010 edition of Asia's largest Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (IHGF) will begin at India Expo Mart & Centre at Greater Noida Expressway in the NCR of Delhi from February 20, 2010, in which more than 2,100 Indian exhibitors including 900 permanent marts will be showcasing a wide range of products and over 5,000 buyers from across the world are expected to throng the fair.

Tmt. Panabaaka Lakshmi, Minister of State for Textiles, will inaugurate the fair at a colourful ceremony. Leading business luminaries, exporters, Government officials and diplomats will also be present at the inaugural ceremony.

The 29th edition of the prestigious four-day b2b event, being organized by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), will mainly focus on eco-friendly products and products made out of different raw material base like wood, metal, cane and bamboo, textiles made of natural fibres, artificial fibres, wool, silk, jute, coir, stone, leather, animal bye-products, terracotta, lacquer etc.

Indian manufacturers and exporters of handicrafts and gifts items from all parts of the country will display best of their latest and innovative products under one roof spread over 97,000 square meters at the world class mart. The fair is expected to generate sizeable enquiries and business orders for the Indian handicrafts sector. The fair is organized two times a year viz. February and October and has acquired the reputation of ''One Stop Sourcing Event'' amongst the overseas buying community and 'most effective marketing medium' amongst Indian exporting community.

Taking into account the gradual turnaround in economic slowdown in the most parts of the world, EPCH has organized a very vigorous publicity campaign in the main markets of gifts and handicrafts and also in the emerging markets in the world for this fair too. The campaign strategy includes advertisements and hoardings at important Airports, Associations, Chambers of Commerce, Foreign Missions, and Indian Missions abroad for publicizing IHGF.

Despite the fact that USA and Europe have been major buyers of India in the past, the focus of EPCH is now on new emerging markets hitherto unexplored and under-explored region like Latin America, Central Asia (CIS), Africa and South East Asia for promoting overseas business visitorship to this mega handicrafts and gifts fair.

For this fair, buyers and journalists from countries like South Africa, Namibia, Tunisia, Botswana, Tajikistan, Belarus, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Laos, Indonesia, Brunei & Malaysia have been invited specially to visit IHGF. This is a part of the on-going “Focus programme of EPCH”.

Shri Raj Kumar Malhotra, Chairman of the Council said that “the feedback and requirements of our international trade visitors have always been paramount to us. The constant upgradation and consolidation at IHGF is testimony to this. Moreover, we are trying to focus on new unexplored markets where the demand is still strong to offset the losses suffered due to lack of demand from major importers like US and EU during economic slowdown.”
