David Lewis & C Douglas Weston bag AATCC honors for reactive dyes

The world's top textile scientists were honored during AATCC's 2005 International Conference & Exhibition (IC&E) in Boston, on October 25-27, at the Hyatt Harborside.

The awards were presented at the Association's conference Awards Luncheon on Thursday, October 27, 2005, at the Hyatt Harborside in downtown Boston.

AATCC has named David M Lewis and C Douglas Weston as co-recipients of the HENRY E MILLSON AWARD FOR INVENTION for their cumulative work on reactive dyes and their applications.

The award, established in 1979, recognizes outstanding contributions to textile technology.

A native of Amberley, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom, Lewis obtained a BSc with Honors in 1963 and a PhD in1966 from the University of Leeds.

He joined the University of Leeds in 1987 and became a professor of colour chemistry and head of the department of colour chemistry as well as the head of the school of physical sciences.

He currently serves as an emeritus research professor and the director of the Centre for Analytical Science and Services at the university as well as chief scientific officer of Perachem Ltd., a spin-off company from the university, and the research director of Innovink Ltd.

Lewis was twice awarded a gold research medal from the Worshipful Company of Dyers for research published in the Journal of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC).

He was awarded a silver medal of the SDC for technological innovation.
