Central Statistics Office Ireland announced annual inflation of November 2005.
Consumer Prices in November, as measured by the CPI, decreased by 0.2 percent in the month. This compares to an increase of 0.2 percent in November of last year and as a result, the annual rate of inflation fell to 2.6 percent, down from 3.0 percent in October.
The EU Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) also fell by 0.2 percent, compared to an increase of 0.2 percent in November 2004. The annual rate of inflation, as measured by the HICP, fell from 2.7 percent in October to 2.2 percent in November.
The most notable changes in the year were increases in Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas & Other Fuels (+11.1 percent), Health (+6.2 percent), Education (+4.9 percent), Transport (+3.6 percent) and Restaurants & Hotels (+3.2 percent).
There were decreases in Clothing & Footwear (-1.5 percent), Furnishings, Household Equipment & Routine Household Maintenance (-0.9 percent) and Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages (-0.8 percent).
The annual rate of inflation for Goods was 0.9 percent in November while the corresponding rate for Services was 4.1 percent.
The most significant monthly price changes were decreases in Transport (-1.5 percent) and Miscellaneous Goods & Services (-0.5 percent). These decreases were partially offset by increases in Clothing & Footwear (+1.9 percent) and Education (+1.5 percent).
The main factors contributing to the monthly change were as follows
