Ahmedabad – which was called the 'Manchester of the East' in its pristine days, will play host to an international conference on manmade fibre textiles on November 18-19, 2011 in the premises of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management – Ahmedabad (IIM-A).

The “International Conference on Man-Made Fibre Textiles” will be co-organised by Fibre2fashion - the global textile, apparel and fashion B2B portal, Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) & Surat Art Silk Cloth Manufacturers Association (SASCMA).

International and Indian experts have been invited to discuss and deliberate the recent advances in raw materials, product innovations, branding and retailing as well as modern management needs of this sector along with the opportunities in technical textiles.

Two panel sessions, one on apparel and household textiles and the other on Technical Textiles are expected to enrich the distinguished participants' knowledge and thoughts.

Globally acclaimed and leading UK-based textile analyst Mr. Robin Anson will deliver the keynote address and will also deliberate upon China's leadership in the field of man-made fibre textiles.

Dr PR Roy, Director – Fibre2fashion says, “Experts from India and overseas textile fraternity would deliberate and discuss the recent developments in the sector and ways and means of taking the Indian textile industry forward”.

He adds, “Considering the eminence and contribution of Surat in the development and growth of the man-made fibre textile industry in India, the man-made fibre textile industry of Surat will receive special focus at the conference”.

Mr Rohit Mehta, President – SGCCI explains, “There has been no organized effort to promote 'Brand Surat', despite Surat developing into a major manmade textile production base. Any initiative taken by any organization to promote the textile business of Surat is welcome”.

He further adds, “As the President of SGCCI in this year, I have taken the initiative of promoting 'Brand Surat', whether it is related to textiles or diamonds. The efforts and the initiative by Fibre2fashion are most welcome”.

Arun Jariwala – Chairman of Federation of Indian Art Silk Weaving Industry and also President – SASCMA informs, “With the expectation that, there could be a cap on the yield and output of raw cotton in coming years, manmade fibre sector is all set to play a vital role in clothing, home textiles and technical textiles in the future”.
