Federated to divest Robinsons-May store in Scottsdale

Federated Department Stores Inc informed that it will divest the Robinsons-May store in Scottsdale Fashion Square in Scottsdale, AZ (283,000 square feet; opened 1961; 277 employees). This location was acquired as part of Federated's merger with The May Department Stores Company in 2005 and is duplicative of the existing Macy's in the same mall.
A clearance sale at the Robinsons-May in Scottsdale will begin on April 2nd 2006. The company intends to offer positions in other area Macy's stores to as many Robinsons-May Scottsdale employees as possible.
This brings to 79 the total number of duplicate stores the company intends to divest in its May Company merger integration.
Federated, with corporate offices in Cincinnati and New York, is one of the nation's premier retailers, with fiscal 2006 sales expected to be more than $27 billion.
Federated operates more than 850 department stores and more than 720 bridal and formalwear stores in 49 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico under the names of Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Famous-Barr, Filene's, Foley's, Hecht's, Kaufmann's, Lord & Taylor, L.S.
