Glen Raven expands 'GlenGuard' apparel fabric collection

Building on the successful introduction of its GlenGuard FR line of protective work apparel fabrics, Glen Raven Technical Fabrics is expanding the collection with the addition of fleece and outerwear apparel fabrics designed to protect workers from burn hazards as well as cold temperatures.
"We launched GlenGuard a year ago with the introduction of apparel fabrics for shirts, pants and overalls," said Hal Bates, marketing coordinator for Glen Raven Technical Fabrics. "Fleece and outwear fabrics expand the breadth of the line, targeting applications in which workers not only need protection from electrical arc and burns, but also additional warmth."
The fleece fabric is a luxurious, soft pile fabric ideal for vests and jacket linings, while the outerwear fabric is a heavyweight fabric that provides protection from the elements, cold and rain. Both fabrics offer the same level of protection of GlenGuard apparel fabrics.
GlenGuard fabrics are a blend of Kermel fibers with solution-dyed FR modacrylic fibers. The result is a fabric that is inherently flame resistant and also colorfast even after repeated commercial launderings.
"The challenge in developing protective fabrics and apparel is to balance protection, economy and comfort," said Mike Jeffrey, marketing agent with Protective Textile Solutions, an Ontario, Canada-based company that specializes in high-tech fabrics for industrial applications throughout North America.
"The fabric absolutely must meet government standards, but it must also be long lasting and provide a good value for the investment," he said. "Finally, everyone in the industry has come to appreciate the importance of comfort if you are to achieve consistent protection for your workers."
Glen Raven launched the new fabric this year with a major industrial laundry service and a specialty manufacturer of arc flash clothing. Glen Raven is also working with several protective apparel makers who are adding GlenGuard to their product offerings, while a number of leading industrial and petrochemical companies are running field trials.
