2005 CTI-DND CONFERENCE AND MILITARY TEXTILES AND PERSONAL EQUIPMENT TRADE SHOW

The 2005 CTI-DND Conference and Military Textiles and Personal Equipment Trade show, held April 19-20 at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier Hotel in Ottawa, was another great success.

There were approximately 450 participants over the two day event from both government and industry, and a record 44 booths were taken by exhibitors showcasing the latest textiles, clothing and gear for use by the military.

Industry presentations on the first day of the Conference included talks on advanced polymer research applicable to personal protective equipment (Earl Laurie, AirBoss-Defense); comfort and functionality in military protective apparel (Oliver Spöcker, Lenzing Fibers and Darko Medved, Ivodex Enterprises Inc.); mew developments in alternative cold water immersion suits for submariners (Wendell Uglene and Tricia Charles, Mustang Survival Corp.); sleeping systems (Evan Jones, Integral Designs); and the future and challenges of dismounted soldier systems (Claude Lemelin, Oerlikon Contraves (Canada) Inc.).

Armed forces presentations on the second day included updates and information on the Naval Improved Clothing and Equipment (NICE) project (Ernie Peaker and Ken Petty); the Clothing and Equipment Millennium Standard (CEMS) project for the Air Force (LCol Pierre Naud and Major Geoff Carter); Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE) requirements for the Air Force (Major Clarence Rainey); nuclear, biological, chemical defence (NBCD) (Major Pierre Caron); the Clothethe Soldier project (Major Christina Gross and Capt. Laird Coghill); current product improvements for the Army (Capt. Laird Coghill); and the Integrated Soldier System Project (ISSP) (LCol Mike Bodner; LCol Jacques Lévesque; and Doug Palmer).
