Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) received the UNAIDS Civil Society Awards 2006 in recognition of the company's outstanding commitment and support to the national fight against HIV and AIDS on the occasion of World AIDS Day - December 1, at New Delhi.
From a nationwide selection process conducted by UNAIDS jointly with SAATHI - an NGO, RIL bagged the UNAIDS Civil Society Awards 2006 in the Corporate Category on the initiatives the company has undertaken to combat HIV AIDS.
RIL was accorded this year's award in recognition of its workplace policy on HIV AIDS and proactive support for its employees and communities in terms of life-skill development and HIV AIDS Information resilience.
Smt Nita Ambani said "We are thankful to UNAIDS for acknowledging the efforts of Reliance Industries Limited in its initiatives to combat HIV AIDS. This award will act as a fillip to enhance our efforts in this area."
UNAIDS' Civil Society Awards ceremony is a unique opportunity to give recognition to the outstanding and little recognized work of organizations and people who find innovative and effective ways to address HIV.
Established in collaboration with SAATHI, the UNAIDS Civil Society Awards has been constituted to honour civil society Organizations that has been providing outstanding support to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services to communities all around India.
