IKEA, the world's leading home furnishings retailer announced that its future Sunrise, Florida store will open at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2007. IKEA Sunrise will be the Swedish company's first store and restaurant destination in Florida, the 2nd in the Southeast, and 32nd in the U.S. Until the 293,000 square-foot future IKEA Sunrise opens in Broward County, customers can shop at IKEA Atlanta, which opened in 2005. Other Florida stores will open on November 14 in Orlando and Summer 2009 in Tampa.
“Due to the progress made throughout the year, and with the assistance of the professional staff at the City of Sunrise, we are confident all remaining milestones in the interior build-up process will be complete by mid-October,” said Peter Steinweg, store manager of IKEA Sunrise.
“Now our primary objective is to continue training the nearly 400 local hires who will be joining the IKEA coworker family before we open.”
IKEA Sunrise will present 10,000 exclusively-designed items, 50 room settings, three complete model homes, a supervised children's play area and a 250-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries or salmon plates, as well as American dishes.
Family-friendly features include a 'Children's IKEA' area in the showroom, baby care rooms, preferred parking and play areas throughout the store.
The 293,000-square-foot future IKEA Sunrise is located on 20 acres at the northwestern cornerof I-595/SR-84 and N.W. 136th Avenue as part of the 25-acre “Gateway at Sawgrass” retail center being built by Ft. Lauderdale-based Stiles Corporation.
